What is the passing score for AP Literature?
In 2025, 74% of students received a score of 3 or higher on the AP Lit exam. AP English Literature is considered moderately challenging, as it involves analyzing complex texts and writing well-developed essays under timed conditions.
Do I need to be enrolled in an AP class to take the exam?
While students do not have to be enrolled in an AP class to take the exam, completing the course before attempting the test is highly recommended. Students who wish to take the AP Lit exam independently must register and find a participating school willing to administer the test on their own.

Where do I take the AP Lit exam?
