Infection control is the set of practices healthcare workers use to prevent the spread of infectious organisms among patients, staff, and visitors. It includes hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, sterilization, and standard precautions.
Infection control is the discipline of stopping infections from spreading within healthcare settings. Every practice in it targets the chain of infection — the sequence of pathogen, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission, portal of entry, and susceptible host. Break any single link, and transmission stops.
