Preparing for finance licensing exams while balancing work, life, and everything in between is no small feat. As someone with a full schedule, I needed a study system that was clear, efficient, and flexible. That’s exactly why I chose Achievable, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made during my exam prep.
Below is a look at my experience, what worked for me, and what I learned along the way.
What motivated you to take this exam?
For me, taking these exams was part of a bigger career evolution. After years of working in finance and strategy for Fortune 100 Companies, I wanted to expand into financial advising and wealth management. That meant obtaining the proper licenses, which started with the SIE, then moving on to the Series 7 and Series 66.
It was time in my career to open the door to a new chapter professionally, one where I can help people build wealth, make smarter financial decisions, and take control of their financial futures, while working on my own schedule.
What was the biggest challenge during your prep?
Time management, without a doubt.
I was studying while working full-time and juggling a busy life outside of work, as I love to travel with friends and family. Some days I had energy and focus, and other days it was a challenge just to open the material.
The key was accepting that the process wouldn’t be perfect. Some days I studied more than planned, some days less. The important thing was staying consistent and trusting the system.
How did you balance studying with other responsibilities?
The structure of Achievable helped a lot with this.
I typically studied in the evenings based on my schedule. In college, I was also a night owl, so I reverted to what I know works for me. I treated study time like an appointment I couldn’t cancel. Even if I only had 30-45 minutes, I would still log in and move forward. It also helped to change up my study environments when I had low energy; sometimes I was in the office, other times it was a quaint coffee shop.
One of the biggest benefits of Achievable is that after you plug in your exam date, it automatically builds your study schedule. If you follow it exactly, great. But if life happens and you miss a few days, the system recalibrates your plan so you can still stay on track.
That flexibility made it much easier to stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed.
What did your daily or weekly routine look like?
I studied daily for my exams, so it was usually get up, work out, do my day job, and then around 4 pm, I knew I had to get my study time in. Based on how quickly I wanted to take the tests, I would study for 2-3 hours in the evenings. While Achievable has recommended times for each section, it may take more or less time depending on how well you grasp the info.
The platform makes it easy because everything is already organized for you. I didn’t have to figure out what to study next—it was all mapped out.
What strategies, habits, or tools helped you most?
The biggest thing that helped me was focusing on understanding the concepts, not just memorizing answers. I took notes throughout each section to refer back to and made flashcards for newer concepts to make sure I really locked them in. Having the notes was key after I finished the coursework, as it was super handy for referring back to prior topics.
Achievable does a great job of teaching the why behind the material. That approach helped a lot on exam day because the questions often require applying knowledge to new scenarios.
One feature I especially loved was the audio option. Being able to listen and read at the same time helped me absorb the information much better. Sometimes I would replay sections just to reinforce the concepts.
Did your background or life circumstances shape your prep?
Definitely. While I have worked in the industry my entire career and studied Finance in school, I approached this as though everything was new to make sure I truly grasped the content.
I was also studying while working full-time in a demanding professional role, which meant I had to be very intentional with my time. I didn’t have unlimited hours to study, so I needed a prep program that was efficient and easy to follow.
Achievable’s straightforward explanations and clean interface made it much easier to stay focused and keep moving forward.
How did you feel going into test day?
I felt a mix of nervousness and confidence.
Nervous because these exams are challenging, but confident because I had done the work. By the time test day arrived, I had completed the material, taken multiple practice exams, and spent a lot of time reinforcing the fundamentals.
One thing I reminded myself of is that no test prep company can perfectly mimic the wording of the actual exam. But if you truly understand the concepts, you can apply that knowledge to whatever the exam throws at you.
That’s where Achievable really shines—it focuses heavily on the fundamentals and practical understanding, which feels very real-world. On top of using Achievable’s program, I was also intentional about doing my research to understand what to expect on test day.
What would you do differently?
I honestly would give myself grace throughout the process, knowing that missing a few days will not completely throw you off schedule. There were moments through my studying where I made the decision to put down the materials and focus on the here and now, but I had the worry in the back of my head of “what does this mean when I pick it back up? Will I have forgotten everything I learned?” But that wasn’t the case, AT ALL.
What’s next for you now?
Now that these exams are behind me, I’m excited to take a break and enjoy some travel while continuing to build the next chapter of my career in financial advising and wealth management.
Passing the exams was a big milestone—but it’s really just the beginning.
What role did Achievable play in your prep?
Achievable played a major role in my success.
What stood out most to me was:
- Extremely easy-to-understand materials
- A study schedule that automatically adjusts if you fall behind
- Adaptive learning that adjusts to your progress
- The audio feature that allows you to listen and read simultaneously
- A strong focus on fundamentals instead of just memorization
At the end of the day, the exam requires you to apply what you know, not just recall definitions. Achievable prepares you well for that.
If you’re preparing for a finance licensing exam and want something that is clear, flexible, and designed for real understanding, Achievable is definitely worth considering.
