Last summer, during my final semester of college, I decided to take the SIE, Series 65, and Series 63 exams. I wanted to get a head start on my career in finance, and I knew that earning these licenses before entering the workforce would help me stand out to employers and give me a solid foundation of industry knowledge. Looking back, obtaining these licenses was one of the best investments I could have made in my future. Today, I work in trust and wealth management, and the knowledge I gained through the process continues to support me in my role.

The biggest challenge during my preparation was balancing everything on my plate. During my final semester, I was not only taking classes and preparing for graduation but also interning in a tax department. Between coursework, internship responsibilities, and studying for three licensing exams, there never seemed to be enough hours in the day. There were times when the amount of material felt overwhelming, especially because these exams covered complex topics ranging from securities regulations and investment products to portfolio management and ethics. Staying motivated while managing multiple commitments required a great deal of discipline.

Building a consistent study routine

To make it work, I developed a routine and stayed consistent. During the week, I would attend classes, complete internship assignments, and dedicate time in the evenings to studying. Weekends became my opportunity to dive deeper into difficult concepts and take practice exams. Instead of trying to study for several hours at a time, I focused on making progress every day. Even an hour of focused studying helped me stay on track. Consistency became more important than perfection.

One strategy that helped me tremendously was breaking the material into smaller, manageable pieces. Thinking about three licensing exams at once was intimidating, so I focused on one chapter, one quiz, or one topic at a time. Practice questions also played a major role in my success. They allowed me to identify weak areas and build confidence before exam day. Over time, I learned that understanding the concepts was more important than simply memorizing information.

Balancing test prep with school and an internship

My circumstances definitely shaped my preparation experience. As a college student and tax intern, I was balancing academic, professional, and personal responsibilities simultaneously. However, that experience taught me valuable lessons about time management and accountability. It also reinforced my commitment to building a career in financial services. Every hour spent studying felt like an investment in my future, which kept me motivated even when my schedule was packed.

Staying calm on exam day

On test day, no matter how much I prepared, there was always some uncertainty as I walked into the testing center. What helped me stay calm was knowing that I had put in the work. Between months of studying, countless practice questions, and consistent preparation, I felt confident that I had given myself the best possible chance to succeed. Once the exam started, I focused on one question at a time and trusted my preparation. It also really helped me prepare a cheat sheet for the exam, memorize it, and then copy it onto a piece of paper for the exam.

If I could do anything differently, I would spend less time doubting myself. Looking back, I often knew more than I thought I did. There were moments when I questioned whether I was studying enough or retaining enough information, but those worries were usually unnecessary. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that confidence and consistency are just as important as knowledge.

Passing these exams gave me a head start before graduation

Now that I've completed these exams and graduated, I'm proud to be working in trust and wealth management. Earning the SIE, Series 65, and Series 63 licenses before graduation gave me a head start and helped me enter the industry with valuable credentials already in place. The experience strengthened my confidence and taught me how much can be accomplished through dedication and persistence.

A major factor in my success was Achievable. The platform made difficult concepts easier to understand through clear explanations, organized lessons, and realistic practice questions. What stood out most was how approachable the material felt. Even while balancing a full course load, a tax internship, and exam preparation, Achievable provided a structured study plan that kept me on track. It helped turn what initially felt like an overwhelming goal into an achievable one and played a significant role in my passing all three exams and launching my career in finance.
